Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of the Lehigh Valley Launches New Non-Profit
March 28, 2011 – Center Valley, Pennsylvania The Fé Program delivers comprehensive life skills and entrepreneurial training to potential Latino entrepreneurs. The program includes one week of life skills and academic business training at DeSales University, where students reside and get a view of campus life. The following four weeks include paid internships at businesses in the Lehigh Valley, where mentors share real-life business challenges and opportunities.
In addition to Air Products, Sacred Heart Hospital, The Da Vinci Science Center, and many others, students have enjoyed learning from some of the best and brightest in the Lehigh Valley community. As the program’s primary sponsor, Aetna has provided the majority of the funding, and has also mentored four students at their Allentown facility.
Candidates for the program include 10th and 11th grade students from public and charter schools in the Lehigh Valley. Beginning with 20 students in 2009 and 24 in 2010, this year’s program will include 34 students, with a new academic component delivered by Penn State University at their Center Valley campus. Initially launched by HCCLV, the 2011 program will be administered by The Fé Foundation of the HCCLV, a new 501(c) (3) under the stewardship of its President Alvaro Diaz.
A fixture in Lehigh Valley’s legal community, Fitzpatrick Lentz and Bubba has been instrumental in establishing the new nonprofit. Greater Lehigh Valley Gold ADDY award winner Klunk and Millan Advertising developed the logo and branding for the new entity. Flanked by these prominent players in Lehigh Valley’s business community, the future of The Fé Foundation has the potential to be as bright as the futures of the children they serve.
